Expecting What? The Royal Wedding

People around the world are expecting Kate and William’s grand marriage on this Friday. While some details are confirmed, others have everyone speculating. Here’re some including guest list, wedding party, wedding gown, evening reception etc.,

The Arrivals

In addition to Kate and William 's friends from university, Will's air force buddies, foreign leaders, church officials, and diplomats, celeb guests will include Victoria and David Beckham.

The majority of guests will arrive between 8:15 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Will and Harry will arrive at 10:10 a.m., followed by foreign royals. Kate's mom, Carole, will arrive at the Abbey's VVIP entrance at 10:30 a.m., just before Will's family (including the Queen) arrives. The bridesmaids and pages will show up 10:55 a.m., and then Kate and her father, Michael, will arrive via the Queen's Rolls Royce Phantom.

The Wedding Dress

The rumors have been swirling: At first, fashion insiders whispered that Bruce Oldfield (a favorite of Princess Diana's) was the chosen designer of Kate's wedding gown. Then the names of Alice Temperley, Amanda Wakeley, and Jasper Conran came up, before the Sunday Times claimed that Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen had been chosen. Most recently, Sophie Cranston of Libélula is said to have won the coveted commission. (Interestingly, Cranston has worked under Alexander McQueen and Alice Temperley.)

James Pryce of the Richard Ward Salon will be tending to Kate's locks. The stylist has reportedly said that Kate will be wearing her hair down, and that she may opt for flowers instead of a tiara.

Finally, inside sources say that Pippa has been spotted at Alice Temperley's atelier, making the British designer the front-runner for her bridesmaid dress.

The Grand Exit

The newlyweds will then head to Buckingham Palace in the same carriage that transported Will's parents—a 1902 State Landau originally made for the coronation of Edward VII.

The Evening Reception

Usually, after the wedding breakfast, royal couples jet off to a honeymoon destination, but Kate and William plan to stick around for a private dinner reception and night of dancing at the Palace, hosted by the Prince of Wales. Starting around 8 p.m., this 300 person reception will include friends and family. Insiders say the evening is expected to be a "rather loud disco."

On trend: Shorts! Shorties!

It’s time to pull out all the short stops, ladies! The mid-season slump is in full effect and ready to hold you back from some serious trend spotting, so none of that” I’d rather not let my pasty, winter worn legs rejoin society this season” foolishness. Stop being a spring chicken and let those gams see some sun! Lucky for you, the spring collections are teeming with cute shorties to take inspiration from. Here’re some picks which may be suggestions for you when shopping on the clothing stores.

Chanel’s A-line jacket. “Is it a skirt? Is it a short?” Ooh, suit-duo! Ruffles top added some flirty and sweet vibe to the outfit.

Aquilano.Rimondi’s color blocked cuts let the intensive colors speak themselves. Of course, high waist is the focal point.

Nina Ricci’s tailored pleats shorts has paper-bag waistline with self belts. It’s kind of romantic style with the transparent chiffon top. Nude color is in.

Diane von Furstenberg’s vivid swirls outfit is so bold. It’s kind of quirky and modern. What’s the same is the high waistline.

A-Line

The A-Line dress has a fitted bodice which gradually flares wider from the bust down to the hemline (looks like the shape of the letter "A"). This dress flatters just about every body type.

Ball Gown

The Ball gown has a full skirt with off-the-shoulder bodice and a natural waistline. An example would be Cinderella's Ball Gown. If you have a full-figure, this is a great dress for you.

The Sheath gown fits snug. It has a straight skirt without a waist. If you have a well-proportioned figure this dress will look great on you.

Most Stylish Mothers

Reassure your mom: It is possible to find a stylish mother-of-the-bride dress in any price range. Here we've chosen dresses and accessories that any mother would be proud to wear.

Elegant Mother

This mother went with a textbook timeless and elegant look for her daughter's formal wedding. She chose a floor-length gown in a dark chocolate hue. The matching lace bolero provides modesty (a request of most moms) without completely covering up her lovely arms and neck. A touch of color in the form of yellow diamond earrings completes the look. "Modest" doesn't have to mean "matronly," and you can never go wrong with deep hues and slim "state dinner" silhouettes.
Classic Mother

Since this summer wedding had a "camp chic" dress code, mother-of-the-bride decided to wear a smart silk shantung shirt dress. The golden hue, three-quarter-length sleeves, and belted 1950s silhouette are very flattering. A design like this has lots of wear-again potential. Understated accessories and flat sandals worked for her casual look, but heels and more dramatic jewelry would make it holiday-party ready.
Glamorous Mothers

For the formal black-tie wedding, mother-of-the-bride opted for a dress that perfectly captured the event's mood—black silk satin, crystal embellishments and classic diamond jewelry are as "black tie" as it gets. We like that gown is luxurious without being ostentatious, sexy but not outrageous. She pulled off a strapless neckline, and so can you (or you might try adding a matching jacket or bolero). And glitz is fair game at a posh event—in moderation.

Latest Bridal Gowns -- Florals, Romance, Mini

2011 wedding dress have been nothing less than thrilling, with an influx of vintage vibe, indie style and tantalizing wedding dresses. Bridal boutique sites with online wedding dresses give any bride-to-be easy access to the latest and greatest creations by top designers. The following wedding dress trends have taken the bridal industry by storm, and have given brides a plethora of fashion forward styles to choose from.

Florals

Flowers, flowers everywhere! With an abundance of blooming flowers amongst the new wedding trends finding their way onto 2011 wedding gowns, you’d think bridal gown designers had a special affinity for gardening. Some gowns have even been designed to emulate a giant flower, while others are resplendent with cabbage roses, silk petals, and flowers of all varieties. Don’t be surprised if you see a bride making her way down the aisle in a gown completely covered in rose buds, from the top of her bodice to the tip of her toes.

Romance

Another ubiquitous style that has found its way into 2011 is ideal for romantic brides who love lace, chiffon, tulle, light-weight taffeta, and organza. If you want to float down the aisle in a dreamy gown comprised of feather-light materials, then you’ve got a lot of styles to choose from. The dreamiest of the romantic gowns this year are adorned with intricate and simple embellishments and embroidery. You also won’t find a shortage of lace. Designer Elizabeth Fillmore’s 2011 creations seem as though they were plucked straight out of a romantic’s fantasy. One Fillmore design, was a tea-stained lace empire wedding dress, which encapsulated what a true romantic style wedding gown should be.

Mini

Another bridal fashion forward style is one that shows skin, specifically legs. This style ranges in length from mini, super mini, and back down to knee length. Brides with fantastic stems should snag this style and make it your own. One designer in particular, Priscilla of Boston, dropped jaws with a wedding hot-pant romper. If brides can get away with wearing shorts down the aisle this year, then it should be interesting to see what’s in store for 2012. The shorter length gowns often come as separates, like designer Melissa Sweet’s delicate blouses and multi-layered mini-skirts.

Dress Up in Vibrant Colors

Nowadays many people tend to think that a beach wedding automatically means they can dress down. Unfortunately, this is not the case. You may not need to dress as fancily as if you were going to a wedding at a high-end hotel, but you still want to look like you are going to a special occasion. Here are a few suggestions for you to choose your beach wedding party dresses.

Go with vibrant colors. Bright reds, purples, corals, and blues are great for beach weddings. More muted colors such as beiges, silvers, mauves blacks and browns may look great for an indoor wedding, but beach weddings demand a bit more color.

When you are in doubt, then you can go with a floral dress. This does not mean that you can throw on a cotton halter dress that could be mistaken for a beach cover-up. A floral print dress in a nice fabric is both comfortable and elegant. However, make sure that it is long enough (or that you have something underneath) to account for windy days.

When it comes to beach wedding shoes, you need them to be practical yet nice. Rubber flip-flops should never be worn. A flat leather sandal is ideal. Do not wear stilettos, or you will draw too much attention to yourself as you try to make your way through the sand.

Top Picks -- More Choices for Bridesmaids

Choosing dresses for the bridal party is difficult especially when all of the women have different tastes in clothing and are different sizes but if the bridesmaids have more choices and the hottest looks to choose from, there’s sure to be some consensus. This season, there are more bridesmaid dresses to choose from. Shorter lengths will continue to be a popular trend, but this year it’s all about patterned dresses making a strong statement and brides giving their bridesmaids options. There are our top picks and hot trends for spring 2011 bridal party dresses.

Non-Matching Bridesmaids

Gone are the days of carbon copy bridesmaids. Brides are actually allowing their bridesmaids to pick their own dresses and colors. Some brides will pick a specific color or color scheme and fabric for the women to work with and then have each bridesmaid choose an individual dress style from a particular manufacturer that looks flattering on them. Some brides may opt for a select color convertible dress, allowing each bridesmaid to twist the dress into their own style, while other brides will have one dress style in different shades of the same color. Then there are the really brave brides that will let everyone pick their own dress style, fabric and color.

Patterned to Perfection

Today's brides are not afraid of color or patterns and they are embracing both in their bridal party dress selections. Dresses with prints and patterns like florals and plaids are gaining popularity and are refreshing alternatives to traditional solid colored gowns. Retro geometric print dresses that create looks reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s and striped dresses that are perfect for beach weddings provide even more style options. Although not for everyone, graphic black and white zebra or cheetah animal print dresses might be exactly what a bride with a wild side or who’s having a non-traditional wedding wants her maids to wear.

Knee Length Takes the Lead

Shorter length bridesmaids dresses continue to be a hot trend. The cocktail length, falling just above the knee, is a fun flirty alternative to the tea length, which falls about 2” above the ankle, and the full length style of dress which falls to the floor. The cocktail dress length is well-liked because it is easier to dance in and can be worn again for other special occasions.

Ooh! The Royal Wedding Dresses

We know that a lot of people in the press is writing about Kate Middleton’s every move and speculating about her upcoming wedding to Prince William. While the world is wondering what Kate Middleton’s wedding dress is like, let’s take a moment to look at royal wedding dresses of princesses in the past. Here are five of my favorite royal wedding gowns, which I chose because of their timeless appeal and the fact that they’re not over-the-top ostentatious.

My favorite royal wedding dress of all time has to be Princess Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, which was designed by MGM’s costume designer Helen Rose. Her inspiration was one of the ball gowns worn by the actress in the movie and with the help of 35 seamstresses, created this stunning lace and satin creation.

Princess Matte-Marit of Norway wore a simple long-sleeved gown designed by Norwegian designer Ove Harder Finseth. Her only accessories were a tiara and vintage veil. I think she could have used other wedding accessories such as a statement necklace, but I really like how the top of the dress hugs her figure and gives her waist a flattering, feminine shape.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wore a simple and unpretentious ball gown wedding dress by Danish designer Uffe Frank. This royal wedding dress achieves the perfect balance between old-fashioned elegance and modern style; the pleating on the skirt is an unexpectedly trendy detail.

Princess Marie Chantal of Greece wore a stunning lacy Valentino wedding dress, which required the handiwork of over 25 seamstresses and cost $225,000. This is probably the only royal wedding dress I like from the 90s.

Princess Maxima of the Netherlands also wore a Valentino wedding dress when she wed Prince Willem Alexander. It’s just as simple as Princess Matte-Marit’s gown, but with a more unique neckline.
